The Washington Post is reporting that a person close to the second-year quarterback said that Griffin’s knee “feels great” and that he believes he has done everything in his power to return for the opening of training camp. The Post’s source also said that Griffin is running and cutting without pain.

Redskins consultant and famed sports orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews, who performed the surgery on Griffin’s knee Jan. 9, will reportedly examine Griffin's knee on Wednesday and will have the final call on when the QB returns to the field.

Griffin, who suffered damaged to his right knee during the Redskins’ 24-14 loss to the Seahawks on Jan. 6 during a wild-card matchup, is coming off a dazzling rookie season during which he threw for 3,200 yards with 20 touchdowns and five interceptions. He also ran for 815 yards and seven touchdowns and was named Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Griffin initially injured that knee in the first quarter of the wild-card loss to the Seahawks. Griffin rolled out to his right, planted his right leg and threw an incomplete pass but then crumpled in pain.

He was cleared to return to the game by Redskins coach Mike Shanahan and the team’s medical staff. Late in the fourth quarter, Griffin’s right knee gave way as he tried to recover a bad snap, causing damage to his anterior cruciate ligament, lateral collateral ligament and meniscus.
