Report: Eric Weddle not expected to attend Chargers OTAs

Published May. 25, 2015 11:40 p.m. ET

The bubbling contract dispute between the Chargers and their best defender is starting to boil over.

Safety Eric Weddle will skip organized team activities as he hunts for a new deal, according to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport.

The Chargers would be wise to iron something out soon. According to Bolts from the Blue, Weddle's cap hit is the highest at his position in the NFL.

Weddle is one of the top players at his position, and he reportedly wants to be compensated like it. At $8 million per year, he's only the sixth-highest paid safety in the league.

But Weddle got that deal from former general manager A.J. Smith. He's dealing with Tom Telesco now, and he's willing to hold out from OTAs in order to get his point across.
