Raiders stage a family reunion by adding UDFA receiver Harper

Published May. 10, 2015 3:26 a.m. ET

It's easy to connect the dotted lines between former Fresno State Bulldogs Josh Harper and Derek Carr.

Harper's motivation for joining the Raiders goes deeper than just a reunion with his former quarterback, though. His sister, Qiava Harper, is the vice president of premium seating and services for the Raiders.

That means if her little brother makes the team as an undrafted rookie free agent, it'll be Qiava's job to put fans in the seats to watch him play.

“My baby brother is joining the (Raider) Nation. I couldn’t be more proud,” Qiava Harper said. “I never mentioned anything. I was just being supportive. But I’m glad he made the right decision.”

Qiava said she never tried to sway Josh after seven rounds went by and teams began calling to gauge his interest as an UDFA. But once he made his decision, she said she was the first to hug him and welcome him to the Raiders.

“Then I went out and cried a little,” she admitted. “It must be God’s plan. We’re all here -- Derek (Carr), myself and now my brother. “It’s amazing.”
