Raiders' owner Davis can share a stadium -- just not with the 49ers

Mark Davis sounds like he'd try just about anything to get the Raiders a new stadium near Oakland.

But splitting a home field with their Bay Area rivals isn't an option for the Raiders owner.

“San Francisco did a phenomenal job of getting something done in California — on their own," Davis aid via ProFootballTalk. "To finance a stadium and get it built. And you give them a lot of credit. But it’s not a Raider type of area. It’s just not going to work for the Raiders.”

It's strange that Davis is willing to share with an even greater rival, though. The 49ers play in the same area, but the Chargers -- a co-tenant on their new Carson, Calif. stadium plan -- are a hated division rival.

Davis said can put the AFC West behind him to avoid an untenable relationship.

“There’s not going to be a No. 1 team and No. 2 team (in Carson)” Davis told Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle. “There’s going to be two No. 1 teams, if in fact that’s how it happens. We’re designing it together. We’re making all the decisions together."

It's clear Davis wants his team to cut its own path -- even if that path leads away from the Bay Area and one of the NFL's most loyal fanbases.
