Prince Amukamara already impressed with rookie Landon Collins

New York Giants second round pick Landon Collins is already making quite the impression. After general manager Jerry Reese admitted that he expects Collins to compete for a starting job right away, something Reese didn't say about the team's first-round draft pick, there was a lot of pressure on Collins to prove himself immediately. So far, so good, according to veteran cornerback Prince Amukamara.

"Collins seems very assertive when he calls out the plays," cornerback Prince Amukamara said of the second-round pick to Tom Rock of Newsday. "Just the way he communicates with other DBs on the field, it seems like he's taking charge out there."

Collins is a bit of an athletic break as well. He stands 6-feet tall and weighs in at 228 pounds, but he still managed to clock a 4.53 40-yard-dash at the NFL Combine. According to Mockdraftable.com, his weigh places him in the 97th percentile among all strong safeties selected in the last 17 years.

"He's (Collins) built like a truck," Amukamara said.

Amukamara has an idea about why Collins has been able to step in so seamlessly despite all of the expectations that have come along with his arrival.

"I think all of that confidence comes from being at Alabama and always playing at a pro-caliber mentality," Amukamara said.

Collins will look to carry this momentum with him through OTAs and eventually training camp. By the time training camp does come around, it should be no surprise to see him lining up with Amukamara and the first team defense.
