Players the Tennessee Titans should buy during fire sales

There are a lot of great times to look for deals. While consumers did most of their thrift shopping on Black Thursday, the Tennessee Titans should take a long hard look around during Black Monday.

If you don’t know, Black Monday is what the Monday after the final week of the regular season is called. It earned this name due to the mass firings and impeding releases and trades coming from the teams that finish towards the bottom of the league.

Head coaching changes or GM shifts usually lead to players who are still very capable of starting and contributing on NFL teams, being on the trade block right up until the open of free agency when teams scramble for money.

That isn’t just for players that are washed up, look at DeMarco Murray. He was an underpreformer in a scheme that didn’t fit his skills, so Jon Robinson saw that and took advantage of the situation.

Here are teams that I would imagine could see some major turnover, which could lead to some great deals on players.

      San Francisco 49ers

Alright, not so much turnover here. However, I think that Chip Kelly will want to make some significant changes to his personnel in year two. This would give him a reason as to why he failed in year one, and it would let him build a team that fits his offensive plans.

We all know this worked out terrible in Philadelphia, but people do dumb things all the time in the NFL and I expect this to follow suit.

Top Target: Eric Reid, safety opposite Kevin Byard

      Jacksonville Jaguars

I mean…they are the Jaguars. All jokes aside, how long are you going to stay with a mercurial (at best) QB and one of the worst head coaches in NFL history? The Titans won’t trade with them (probably) so they will probably look at cuts.

Top Target: Julius Thomas (flex TE opposite Delanie Walker)

      San Diego Chargers

The Chargers are probably moving to a new city and they are very close to needing a complete overhaul at QB (backup and starter). They will use a lot of money on their young players Melvin Ingram, Keenan Allen, Danny Woodhead (not exactly young), and Jason Verrett.

        Top Target: Brandon Flowers

Those are the obvious targets for change at the top, and each of those guys mentioned are players we should probably all keep an eye on for the rest of the season. All of them have really had great seasons elsewhere, but probably could be cap cuts or cheap trades for the Titans.

None of them are the long term answer (except maybe Reid) but guys like Thomas and Flowers could be great complimentary guys on this team.
