Animal rights activists planning protest against Mike Vick this Sunday

Published Dec. 17, 2015 1:11 a.m. ET

The Pittsburgh Steelers will have a sellout crowd and then some at this Sunday's final home game of the regular season against the Denver Broncos.

While Terrible Towels will undoubtedly be waving inside Heinz Field as the Steelers battle for playoff positioning, a group of local animal rights activists will be waving signs outside of the stadium against Steelers backup quarterback Mike Vick. Vick, who is only signed through the rest of the season, has expressed a desire to return to Pittsburgh next year, a return the demonstrators are completely against.

Vick, who served nearly two years in prison for federal dogfighting charges, has become an advocate for animal welfare since his release. He visited the state Capitol last week to lobby on behalf of a bill that would protect dogs and cats left unattended in vehicles.
