Chip Kelly not worried about Sam Bradford re-injuring ACL

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Sam Bradford is arguably one of the most injury-prone players in the NFL, but coach Chip Kelly appears unfazed by the gunslinger’s past.

According to Reuben Frank of CSN Philly, Kelly cited favorable history of players avoiding a third ACL injury. He said:

Assuming those numbers are indeed factual—and there’s no reason to suggest they’re not—Kelly’s statement is undeniably true. That doesn’t mean it tells the whole story.

Per Frank, Kelly used long-term injuries to Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers and Peyton Manning as evidence that Bradford can fully recover and thrive.

However, Bradford isn’t simply the victim of a single freak injury. The quarterback sustained his first ACL tear in 2013, and then his second came in 2014. Bradford has also battled a high ankle sprain, shoulder sprain and concussion since his college days at Oklahoma.

The Eagles are placing a hefty amount of trust into Bradford. After an offseason filled with questions about whether or not he deserves that faith, answers to those queries cannot come soon enough.

Philadelphia opens its four-game preseason slate on Sunday, Aug. 16, at 1 p.m. ET against the Indianapolis Colts.
