Eagles kicker misses preseason game after suffering absurd head injury

What's the single-most ridiculous NFL injury you can imagine?

Trick question! It doesn't matter what your imagination might conjure up, because you're not going to beat out what happened to Philadelphia Eagles kicker Caleb Sturgis on Thursday. With the Eagles preparing to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers in preseason action, Sturgis and the rest of Philly's kickers and punters were warming up on the field.

Sturgis, unfortunately, was not wearing a helmet. And when a wayward punt sailed straight for him, well ... things ended poorly:

What?!? You're kidding, right?

Seriously? Come on, Eagles, reveal that this is all an elaborate prank. Please.

Well then.

We sincerely hope Sturgis is OK. As the NFL has made clear over the past few years, head injuries are no laughing matter — even if this one kind of makes you chuckle. Sorry, Caleb.

Let this be a lesson to all the aspiring football players out there: Wear your helmet at all times, or else you're going to end up suffering a ridiculous injury.
