Packers offense looks to have more firepower despite injuries at RB

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

With injuries to Eddie Lacy, and James Starks, the Packers offense had to make some changes heading into Week 7.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers, knew he had to step up in last week after his early struggles and injuries to the backfield and the defense.

With Lacy and Starks out, it looks as if the Packers will turn to their passing game on offense to get the job done. Rodgers passing the ball consistently could really give the Packers an edge now, and later in the year.

Ty Montgomery was used on the ground, and through the air on the night. Montgomery did it all, and contributed in every way possible. Montgomery had 10 catches for 66 yards, and nine rushes for 60 yards. Totaling up 126 yards on offense in many different packages.

With Montgomery lined up at running back, the Packers can be a much more explosive team and have more options. Montgomery can be a great addition in the receiving game out of the backfield, as well as Cobb.

Randall Cobb also had over 10 receptions, bringing in 11 catches, while racking up 95 yards and a touchdown.  Cobb was also seen in the running game, rushing for 21 yards on just five attempts.

Looking at the future for the Packers, it seems like Head Coach Mike McCarthy will be trying to spreading the ball around more.

Against the Bears, McCarthy showed a lot of 4-5 wide receiver sets to give Rodgers more options with the time he has had.

The injuries to Lacy and Starks will not be the end of the Packers offense, instead it might showcase a new identity for the Packers that Packer fans haven’t seen in some time.

The talented wide receiver group that Green Bay poses can be a threat to any secondary, and with a talented receivers, it will open up the running game even more.

Right now the running game it sort of an unknown, but with the addition of Knile Davis in the backfield, and Montgomery getting more reps.

The speed, and being able to lineup in unique packages, could be what turns this offense around.
