Odell Beckham Jr. nearing suspension after $36K fine for blindside hit

Published Nov. 15, 2016 2:08 p.m. ET

New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. has a reputation for being a bit of a dirty player, mainly stemming from last season’s battle with Josh Norman and Bills players saying he threw punches at them. There’s no question Beckham is a fiery player, but sometimes that passion gets him in trouble.

Last week’s game against the Saints was no different.

According to FOX Sports' Jay Glazer, Beckham was fined $36,000 for a blindside block on Saints safety Kenny Vaccaro, who was nowhere near the ball when the hit occurred.

This is particularly noteworthy because another infraction like this one would result in a suspension.

It wasn’t technically a “late” hit because it happened before the whistle was blown, but it’s obvious Vaccaro wasn’t even a part of the play. With officials keeping a close eye on Norman and Beckham in their rematch Sunday, the star receiver will have to be on his best behavior so that he doesn't cost his team.
