NFL Week 3: Broncos better, Seahawks bad and more

The first week of the NFL season was pretty standard by most NFL standards, great games and nice moments. Really, it was a nice and smooth way to bring back the NFL season.

And then came Week 2.

A majority of the games were close and somewhat watchable (just ignore the Rams and Seahawks, IGNORE IT) but it’s what happened in those games that helped shape the second week of the season and maybe a few weeks more in 2016. From teams digging in the depth chart at quarterback to reclamation projects coming up big in prime time. Just another week in the NFL.

In some ways, this was the Patriots worst nightmare.

You only had four weeks until Tom Brady returned without having another change at the Quarterback until Jimmy Garoppolo went down with an injury against the Dolphins on Sunday afternoon.

Now the Patriots will have to find a stopgap for the stopgap.

So where do they turn? Well right now it’s former Florida and N.C. State quarterback Jacoby Brissett who was 6-for-9 for 92 yards passing in a victory over the Dolphins. Getting the victory is great and everything but with a Thursday night trip to Houston coming up is that the guy you want at the controls for the next two weeks.

It’s possible that the Patriots may grab a veteran quarterback like Matt Flynn or Michael Vick (please for the love of God Mike Vick). Neither quarterback really fits the system and would take just two weeks to to grasp the offense. Well, if Sam Bradford can do it then maybe Vick or Flynn could as well. OK, that was a joke.

Maybe the Seahawks offense is hot garbage?

The Seattle Seahawks have never been an offensive juggernaut but through two games in the 2016 season it’s clear, they suck.

After a season opening win against the Miami Dolphins that saw Russell Wilson a late touchdown (the only touchdown through two weeks) you think that the Seahawks would slowly but surely get things on track as they went into week two.

Nope, not at all.

Look, I understand that the Rams give the Seahawks issues but this is the same Rams team that got shut out by the 49ers just six days before. I know they miss Marshawn Lynch but the offensive problems go beyond Beast Mode. The Los Angeles Rams have one of the best defensive lines in all of football but the Seahawks offensive line is so bad I’m afraid Russell Wilson might not make it to Week 6.

It’s not like the Seahawks aren’t without weapons. They have Doug Baldwin and Tyler Lockett on the outside with Jimmy Graham at tight end. You’ve got to have a running game and an offensive line so you don’t become so dependent on those three. If the lack of scoring continues for Seattle, heads will roll in the emerald city.

Broncos gonna Bronco and I was wrong.

It’s 2015 all over again and that’s bad news for the rest of the NFL.

During the summer, I had strong doubts about the post-Manning life for the Denver Broncos. I knew the Broncos defense would be fine, never had any worries about it. The offense was a different story, I just couldn’t see Mark Sanchez leading the Broncos to a 2-0 start and you now give us Trevor Siemian?

Ha! Pencil me down for 6-7 wins for this team.

I was wrong, I was very wrong and Sunday’s game against Indy was proof.

This doesn’t mean I’m ready to crown the Broncos again but I will humbly admit that I was dead wrong about this team. They’ve got a young quarterback that has solid skills and will make mistakes (hell, made some already) but has shown he’s good enough to build on those mistakes. Pair that up with a defense that held the Colts to 253 yards total offense, yeah it looks like you’re going to have to pry Lombardi Trophy out of Denver’s cold, dead hands.
