NFL reportedly taking another step toward returning to Los Angeles

Published Oct. 21, 2014 9:13 a.m. ET

The NFL is beginning a formal market assessment of the Los Angeles area to measure the demand for a franchise, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The league reportedly will email questionnaires to nearly 2,000 potential customers starting Tuesday, indicating an incremental step in the process of the league possibly returning to the L.A. area.

The Times reports that the study does not specify a specific location for a potential team nor does it outline relocation candidates. The St. Louis Rams, San Diego Chargers and Oakland Raiders are all on year-to-year leases and have expressed displeasure with their current stadiums.

The league is expected to gather data during the two-week survey then organize L.A. focus groups to gather more information.
