Giants officially submit request to interview Hue Jackson

Throw Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Hue Jackson into the New York Giants' coaching candidates mix.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Giants have officially submitted a request to interview the second-year offensive coordinator.

Jackson, who served as the head coach of the Oakland Raiders in 2011, found a great deal of success this year with the Bengals' offense. Cincinnati's offense put up 419 points this year, the fifth-most in the NFL. And the Bengals 358 yards per game was fifteenth in the NFL.

Jackson's style of offense would be interesting in New York. This season with the Bengals, Jackson rolled with a strong running offense. In fact, the Bengals rushed the ball 467 times this year, good for the seventh-most in the NFL.

But, interestingly enough, Cincinnati's quarterback Andy Dalton finished with one of his most productive years of his career. His 66.1 completion percentage set a career high, and his seven interceptions were significantly less than any other year (even if he hadn't missed two games this year, Dalton would have likely beaten his career low of 13 interceptions in a season).

If Jackson, who also has three years of NFL experience as a running backs coach, can improve the Giants' run game while also maintaining their strong passing attack, he could be a good fit for New York.
