New York Giants: Eli Manning Remains Confident In Midst Of Slump

Updated Mar. 4, 2020 7:47 p.m. ET

New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning has been struggling as of late, but he remains confident that he can, “Get hot,” and lead his team to success.

The New York Giants are dangerously close to securing a berth in the NFL Playoffs. An emotional 10-7 victory over the Dallas Cowboys pushed the Giants to 9-4 through 13 games, which leaves just three outings remaining on the schedule.

In order for New York to close the season out in style and reach the NFL Playoffs, quarterback Eli Manning will need to turn things around.

The Giants’ offense has generated a combined 21 points over the past two weeks. It’s also worth noting that the defense scored six of New York’s 27 points against the Cleveland Browns, which means the offense has put up 42 points over the past three games.

According to Jim Hague of The Associated Press, Manning knows he’s been struggling, but is confident that he can get hot.

“I know I can make plays,” Manning said Tuesday. “I know I can get hot. I have to keep working. I’m confident that I can go out there and have a big game.”

“I have to play better,” Manning said. “I know that. I have to find completions and protect the ball better. I have to find completions, score points and hopefully win. I know we have to clean some things up.”

If there’s one thing that Manning has proven over the years, it’s that he can get hot around this time of the year.

Manning has long battled a measure of inconsistency during his NFL career, but his hot streaks have put him in all-time territory. When he, “Gets hot,” as he puts it, there aren’t many quarterbacks in league history who can make the throws he does.

Keep in mind, Manning looked awful during Weeks 15 and 16 of the 2011 NFL regular season, but dominated in Week 17 and led New York to the playoffs.

Manning proceeded to help the Giants win the fourth Super Bowl in franchise history by throwing nine touchdowns to just one interception during the legendary postseason run.

There’s no guaranteeing that Manning will catch fire in 2016 like he did in 2011. His track record is strong around this time of the year, however, and one could argue that New York currently has the best receiving corps of the Manning era.

If Manning spreads it around to the likes of Odell Beckham Jr., Victor Cruz, Sterling Shepard, and Will Tye, the Giants’ offense should improve.

Set to face a Detroit Lions team that’s just as hungry for a postseason appearance, Manning will need to, “Get hot,” as soon as possible.
