The Patriots just did something no other team has ever done to win Super Bowl LI

The New England Patriots are accustomed to not scoring in the first quarter of Super Bowls. They haven’t done so in their last seven trips to the big game.

But after a lackluster start that saw them fall behind 14-0 to the Falcons, it looked like the deficit may be too much to overcome. In fact, no other team has ever come back from a deficit greater than 10 points in Super Bowl history.

The last time that happened was in Super Bowl XLIX, when the Patriots came back to beat the Seattle Seahawks.

New England went into the locker room at halftime down 21-3 after it settled for a field goal with a few seconds left in the second quarter. Teams holding an 18-point lead at halftime in the postseason are 67-2.

The Patriots did come back 34-28 in overtime, making history in just about every way imaginable.
