Monday marks four years since former NFL player Junior Seau passed away at age 53, and his daughter, Sydney Seau, took to Twitter to post a poignant tribute to her father.

Seau died on May 2, 2012 of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest, leaving behind four children including Sydney. Seau's family donated his brain to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke for research, and experts there posthumously diagnosed Seau with chronic traumatic encephalopathy, otherwise known as CTE.

None of the three teams Seau played for --” the San Diego Chargers, Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots --€” ever listed Seau as having a concussion.

According to her Twitter bio, Sydney is a senior at the University of Southern California studying communications and sports media.
