Patriots called former Bills RB Fred Jackson within hour of release

It didn't take long for former Buffalo Bills running back Fred Jackson to find a new home after his shocking release. Jackson signed a one-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks just four days after being cut by the Bills, as he'll back up second-team All-Pro, Marshawn Lynch.

It's not surprising how quickly Jackson found a landing spot -- albeit on the other side of the country -- but the Seahawks weren't the only team calling for his services.

According to Tim Graham of the Buffalo News, the New England Patriots, along with the Seahawks, contacted Jackson within an hour after he was released by the Bills. There was speculation when Jackson became available that the Patriots might be interested, and clearly they were.

LeGarrette Blount is set to miss the season opener due to suspension and the team cut one-game wonder, Jonas Gray, leaving Brandon Bolden to lead the group against Pittsburgh.

Jackson, who's never reached the playoffs in his career, is happy to be in Seattle where he has a chance to not only make the postseason, but win a Super Bowl.

"I’m disappointed I didn’t get to do what I wanted to in Buffalo, but I’m excited about Seattle,” Jackson said. “It’s another opportunity to win some football games and chase a Super Bowl."
