Vikings' Robinson compares same-sex marriage to pedophilia

Published Jun. 26, 2015 1:33 p.m. ET

Friday marked a historic day in the history of equal rights in America, as the Supreme Court ruled that individual states can no longer make same-sex marriage illegal. As soon as the ruling was announced, the sports world reacted -- but you knew it was only a matter of time before a professional athlete said something controversial on Twitter.

Minnesota Vikings cornerback Josh Robinson volunteered to be one of the first.

In a series of tweets, Robinson essentially drew a comparison between same-sex marriage and pedophilia.

"Love is love? So what will we say when the 30yr old loves YOUR 10 year old. When the dad loves HIS 6 year old?" Robinson wrote. "It's different?? Yea okay! The day one person makes that stand, some may support, but many will say that's sick! That day I will say 'hypocrites' #untilthen.

But don’t worry, Robinson meant it in the most respectful way possible.

"In the end EVERYONE has a right to believe what they want to believe," he later added. "You shared yours, I shared mine."

Robinson is certainly correct about everyone having the right to believe what they want, but we also reserve the right to disagree for expressing those beliefs. We know one Pro Bowl teammate of Robinson who might even agree with him.
