Minnesota Vikings DT Sharrif Floyd wants to be an extension of 'feisty coach'
Sharrif Floyd's impact has swollen in two seasons with the Minnesota Vikings. After playing a reserve role as a rookie in 2013, Floyd expanded into a regular starter along the defensive line in his second NFL season, recording 42 tackles and 4.5 sacks.
Now, Floyd is ready to take on some new responsibilities. The big defensive tackle wants to become an on-field extension of "feisty coach" Mike Zimmer, according to the Vikings official website.
"He has an aggression about what he does and is passionate, and that’s a guy you’ve got to love," Floyd said about Zimmer, per the team website. "You've got to respect him, and I always feel that you move as your head coach moves, and that’s his personality and what he brings to the table. That’s who I need to be on the field."
Mike Zimmer, who took over the Vikings job last year, inherited Floyd from the Leslie Frazier era. But Zimmer, who told the team website that he likes "big guys," might have found a new favorite player in the 6-foot-3, 305-pound Floyd.
