Dolphins WR Rishard Matthews 'not worried' about impending free agency

When it comes to the receivers of the Miami Dolphins, it's typically Jarvis Landry and rookie DeVante Parker who get most of the attention. Greg Jennings and Kenny Stills -- two offseason acquisitions -- are also recognizable names, but it's Rishard Matthews that seems to be forgotten.

The problem with that is the fact that he shouldn't be. Instead, he should be recognized for how solid he was in 2015.

Before suffering a season-ending rib injury, Matthews had caught 43 passes for 662 yards and four touchdowns -- all of which were career-highs despite playing in just 11 games. Now, he's set to be a free agent in March, but he's not thinking about that right now. He's focused on training.

“I mean, I’m not worried about that right now,” Matthews said. “I’m starting my training [Tuesday]. I’m going to train my a** off this offseason and just come prepared for next year wherever it is.”

He's not certain to return to the Dolphins given the presence of Parker, Landry and Stills. With that said, he seems ready to move on from Miami.

“Just where I fit in with the offense, where I fit in with the organization,” Matthews said. “That’s the biggest thing really. Wherever it is, I’m going to go compete and try to get on the field right away.”

He'll look to build on his career-year in 2016, whether it's with the Dolphins or not. He can obviously be a serviceable No. 2 or 3 receiver in the NFL.
