Dolphins' Josh Freeman goes 5-of-16 in poor preseason debut

The difference between the Miami Dolphins' first-team and second-team offense was drastic in the preseason opener on Thursday night. Ryan Tannehill couldn't have had a stronger debut, completing 6-of-7 passes for 56 yards and one touchdown.

Beyond that, quarterback play for the Dolphins was, well, poor. Especially for Josh Freemnan, who's looking to resurrect his career in Miami.

Excluding Tannehill, Miami's quarterbacks were 14-of-37 for 185 yards, zero touchdowns and three interceptions. Freeman, alone, was 5-of-16 with a pick. Needless to say, for a guy on the roster bubble, Freeman's performance won't help his case for a comeback.

As of now, it appears as though Matt Moore and McLeod Bethel-Thompson have the inside track towards beating out Freeman. If that's the case, Freeman will surely find himself off an NFL roster once again in 2015 -- at least with the Dolphins.

With the New York Jets' injury situation regarding Geno Smith, it's not out of the question that they'd take a chance on Freeman if he is released by Miami. It'll be an uphill battle to find his way onto an NFL roster once again, and it's not looking good up to this point.
