Miami Dolphins: In Bacarri Rambo, Miami Adds Defensive Playmaker
The Dolphins needed to sign a safety after the loss of Pro Bowler Reshad Jones; this afternoon, they inked Bacarri Rambo to a one year contract.
Miami’s secondary is depleted. After ‘bend-but-dont-break’ performances in the Dolphins wins against the Steelers and Bills, the team examined multiple ways to add at a defensive back to the roster. Arian Foster’s surprise retirement yesterday gave Miami the opportunity to add an additional player. It appears as though former All-American safety Bacarri Rambo is that player.
Rambo signed with the Dolphins today after being one of four safeties to try out with the team this morning. The other three safeties –James Ihedigbo, Major Wright, and Sergio Brown– all left the Dolphins’ Davie practice facility without contracts despite being more experienced than Rambo.
Rambo, who attended the University of Georgia, was drafted in the sixth round of the 2013 NFL Draft by Washington.
After a season or so in D.C., Rambo headed north to Buffalo where he joined the Bills. In Rambo’s limited time through the first three years of his career, he has three interceptions, two forced fumbles, over 100 tackles and three sacks.
The addition of Bacarri Rambo is consistent with Adam Gase’s philosophy of having stout, physical defensive backs. Rambo has the ability, at six foot, 215 pounds, to line up against tight ends and play against the run. Further, Rambo is a consistent tackler: something the Dolphins desperately need.
Apparently, Rambo is an interesting dude. He likes to challenge people on Twitter to play FIFA. Rambo also used to go by his mothers maiden name, Fudge. On a personal level, I definitely would have purchased a Miami Dolphins Fudge jersey. However, a Dolphins ‘Rambo’ jersey might be too good to pass up.
Speaking of Miami Dolphins jerseys, an update on the Dolphins’ jersey petition can be found here. The petition is nearing 5,000 signatures.
