Dolphins' Brice McCain edges Jamar Taylor as starting CB for Week 1

When the Miami Dolphins open the season against the Washington Redskins, it won't be Jamar Taylor as the team's No. 2 cornerback. It will be the 5-foot-9 Brice McCain.

According to Adam Beasley of the Miami Herald, McCain beat out Taylor for the starting cornerback job and will be the No. 2 corner, "barring a late change in plans."

The cornerback battle was one of the most important in camp as the team was searching for a cornerback to play alongside Brent Grimes. McCain has primarily been a nickel corner throughout his career, but he'll get a chance to play on the outside for the Dolphins in Week 1.

When Taylor is on the field in nickel sets, though, it's likely that McCain will be moved inside to cover the slot.

Taylor dealt with a quad injury late in camp, which forced him to miss a few practices. Ultimately, that may have been what decided the competition, but McCain won't look back now. He's a savvy and scrappy veteran who knows how to man the slot against teams' quicker receivers.
