McCloughan: 'If the best player is a quarterback, we're taking a quarterback'

Washington Redskins general manager Scot McCloughan admitted that the team has decided to pick up the fifth-year $16.1 million option on Robert Griffin III's contract. However, with no guaranteed money tied to the fifth-year, McCloughan confirmed that this decision will not prevent him from addressing the quarterback position in the draft.

“Does not affect the draft process whatsoever,” McCloughan said Monday during his pre-draft press conference “Like I said, if we get to the fifth pick and the best player is a quarterback, we’re taking the quarterback.”

There is also the concern that the Redskins already have three quarterbacks under contract, and it is extremely rare that you will see any NFL team carry four quarterback into the season. This concern does not seem to have any bearing on McCloughan's decision making.

“We’ve got other options with Kirk and Colt,” McCloughan said. “We like the three that we have, but we’re not going to pass on a good football player. There’s no reason to.”

Quarterback, like many other positions on the Redskins roster, remains open for business as we head toward the draft.
