Dolphins LB Misi arrested for battery
The charges relate to an incident last April in Santa Barbara, Calif., where authorities allege Misi broke his way into an apartment and punched a 19-year-old man in the eye, the Miami Herald reported.
The Santa Barbara Sheriff's Office said late Friday that the incident started as people on the apartment's balcony got into a yelling match with people walking past on the street at around 2:30 a.m. on April 15. Misi was allegedly among those shouting from the street.
The Herald reported Misi was still in custody as of Friday afternoon, with bond set at $10,000.
Misi's lawyer, Adam Braun, confirmed the incident in California last year started with a verbal argument, but said the alleged victim had been shouting things that were vulgar and aggressive at Misi and his friends.
Misi, a native of Santa Rosa, Calif., who played in college for three years at Utah, was taken into custody without incident at his home in Weston, about 30 miles (48km) north of Miami.
The Dolphins said in a statement they were not willing to comment about the incident, other than to say they were "aware of the situation and are in the process of gathering information."
Misi was selected in the second round of the 2010 NFL Draft. He played in 12 games for Miami last season at outside linebacker, recording 34 tackles and one sack.
