Joe Flacco content with current Ravens receivers

After losing Torrey Smith in free agency, there has been some speculation that the Baltimore Ravens will use their first-round pick (26th overall) on a wide receiver in the upcoming NFL draft.

Despite what appears to be a depleted group of targets, quarterback Joe Flacco isn’t too worried about the wide receiver situation in Baltimore.

"Obviously, without Torrey now, the one thing we probably don’t have as much of is that speed, is that one guy who can stretch the field,” Flacco said Saturday Night, via ESPN. “But I’m not going to say we need it. I think we got really good guys and I think we’re good with who we have."

Flacco may be saying that publicly, but there’s no real reason to believe that he’d be okay with Baltimore passing up on a wide receiver early in this week’s draft. As of right now, Steve Smith and Marlon Brown would be the team’s starting receivers. After that, Baltimore has a cluster of unproven talent. In fact, if you take Smith out of the equation, returning Ravens receivers caught a total of 55 passes last year.

Unfortunately for the Ravens, they are not in position to select a top-tier pass catcher with the 26th pick. The likes of Amari Cooper, Kevin White and DeVante Parker will be long gone by the time they're on the clock. Heck, even Breshad Perriman and Dorial Green-Beckham might be off the board.

That would, in theory, leave Baltimore in the unenviable situation of having to reach for a potential Day 2 wide receiver at No. 26.

As it is, the Ravens are going to have to address this position early if they want to return to the playoffs. Flacco isn’t of Tom Brady’s ilk where he can get water from a rock at wide receiver.
