Irsay: RG3 declined to work out for Colts

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay claimed Tuesday that quarterback Robert Griffin III declined an invitation to work out privately for the team.

The statement from Irsay, if confirmed, appeared to cement the notion that the Colts will select former Stanford star Andrew Luck as their replacement for Peyton Manning.

Luck will work out for the Colts on Tuesday in Indianapolis, and is widely expected to be the top selection of the NFL Draft on April 26.

"A Luck private workout 2day..we want 2b as thorough n disciplined n process of #1 pick..we wanted 2do private with RG3,but his agent said no," Irsay wrote on Twitter.

Later, however, NBC Sports' Pro Football Talk reported that Griffin will not privately work out for any teams.

Irsay has said the team is undecided on who to select, with some NFL analysts arguing the Heisman Trophy winner's rare athletic ability puts him slightly ahead of Luck, who is considered more of a prototypical NFL passer.

The Redskins were not planning to request that Griffin go to a private workout after team officials attended his Pro Day at Baylor two weeks ago, according to ESPN. Luck held his Pro Day at Stanford one day later on March 22.
