The New York Jets have extended the contract of special teams
coordinator Mike Westhoff through next season.
Westhoff said Monday he’ll likely retire after next season, but
added he doesn’t think that far ahead. The 62-year-old coach has
been with the organization since 2001 and has been regarded as one
of the top special teams coaches in the league for years.
He has had several operations on his left leg because of bone
cancer and stepped down after the 2007 season. After having his
femur replaced in February 2008, Westhoff returned to the team
later that year and says he feels great.
Westhoff is walking without a cane in camp and can be seen
riding a bike around the SUNY Cortland campus after practices.
