Jets' Milliner injures Achilles tendon
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) New York Jets starting cornerback Dee Milliner injured his Achilles tendon in Sunday's game with Denver.
Milliner was seen leaving MetLife Stadium on a cart after the game, crutches at his side. Coach Rex Ryan said simply that it was an Achilles tendon injury, but nothing more.
A torn Achilles tendon usually requires about one year of recovery.
Milliner, the team's first-round draft pick in 2013, was hurt on Brandon McManus' 37-yard field goal on the fifth play of the game. He was helped up by team trainers, but couldn't put any weight on the leg. He immediately was taken to the locker room.
Milliner previously this season had been bothered by hamstring and quadriceps issues and missed three games.
New York lost left guard Brian Winters to a left knee injury in the third quarter. Linebacker Trevor Reilly also had a knee problem.
The Broncos, who won 31-17, had starting linebackers Von Miller and Danny Trevathan leave the game, but only Trevathan was injured. Coach John Fox had no update afterward on Trevathan's knee injury. Trevathan, hurt in the first quarter, missed the first three games this season with a broken left leg.
Strong side LB Miller was sidelined late in the first half for examination of a possible concussion and soon was cleared in the NFL's concussion protocol. But Miller, who had a big second half, said afterward the problem was merely with a lost contact lens.
''They are giving extra, extra about it, so it was a precaution and I aced the test,'' Miller said. ''I kept saying on the sideline I was good, but they wanted to do the test. The only reason it took so long to get back out was I couldn't put the contact back in, and the guy who was doing it never had put contacts in.''
