Jeremy Langford Sprains Ankle, May Miss Multiple Games

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

The Chicago Bears injuries continue to mount as starting RB Jeremy Langford suffered a sprained ankle, the team has confirmed.

Jeremy Langford missed most of the Dallas Cowboys game after suffering an injury. Langford was seen in a walking boot after the game and the team was concerned that Langford may have suffered an Achilles injury that would have ended his season. But John Fox confirmed that Langford’s ankle is sprained and he will be re-evaluated moving forward this week.

Langford hasn’t been overly impressive this year, but with the amount of injuries the team has suffered at this point, they need as many healthy bodies as possible.

The obvious replacement for Langford is rookie Jordan Howard, especially considering Ka’Deem Carey is nursing an injured hamstring, but Fox wouldn’t commit to Howard if Langford misses any time.

According to Jeff Dickerson, Fox told reporters today, “Remember, Jordan is a rookie that we’ve seen for three real NFL football games. So we’ll kind of evaluate as we move forward. I think it would be kind of not right for me to answer that at this point.”

The Bears love to operate under a shroud of secrecy, but why the team wouldn’t commit to Howard if Langford misses time is confusing. It’s not like they are committing to Howard over Langford, only committing to Howard over Carey.

Regardless of who will be handling the workload, the Bears will welcome in the Detroit Lions this Sunday hoping to break their losing streak and win their first game of the year.
