Jason Witten made his season debut alongside his teammates against the New York Giants on Wednesday night.
Witten, who was listed as doubtful on the team’s injury report, was updated to active minutes leading up to game time. Witten suffered a lacerated spleen in the Cowboys’ first preseason game against the Oakland Raiders.
Witten reportedly was so eager to play, he offered to sign a waiver that would relieve the Cowboys and its doctors of any liability if he were to take the field, according to an ESPN report.
“This is a medical decision first and foremost,” Jason Garrett told NFL Network.
Other notable inactives include Cowboys defensive tackle Jay Ratliff, cornerback Mike Jenkins and Giants cornerback Prince Amukamara.
