Jaguars rated as having NFL's worst roster again

After finishing 3-13 in 2014, Jacksonville Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell spent big in free agency, bringing in the likes of Julius Thomas, Jermey Parnell and Jared Odrick, among others, in an effort to upgrade the team's roster.

According to Pro Football Focus, Caldwell still has work to do. For the second season in a row, the Jaguars are ranked as having the worst roster in the NFL.

PFF ranks Sen'Derrick Marks, Brandon Linder, Ryan Davis, Thomas and Odrick as Jacksonville's five best players. The fact that Thomas and Odrick are listed as two of the team's best players despite not having played a down yet for the Jaguars is cited as an indication of an overall lack of talent.

Roy Miller, Paul Posluszny, Chris Clemons, Allen Hurns and Marqise Lee are listed as starters who should be upgraded.

In PFF's analysis of the roster, Blake Bortles, Luke Joeckel and Johnathan Cyprien are pointed to as examples of recent high draft picks that have yet to meet expectations and prove they are above-average NFL players.

While the assessment is sobering, it should be noted that number of key players, including Bortles and Joeckel are entering just their second or third seasons and improved play is still a definite possibility. If that happens, the roster should be viewed in a more favorable light.
