Jacoby Ford fighting to win spot with Titans

After sitting out last season, wide receiver Jacoby Ford is trying to revive his career with the Tennessee Titans and it won't be easy.

Wide receiver is one of the few positions where the Titans have legitimate depth, which will make Ford's chances of surviving final cuts all the more difficult. In addition to holdovers Kendall Wright and Justin Hunter, Tennessee signed Harry Douglas and Hakeem Nicks in free agency and drafted Dorial Green-Beckham and Tre McBride.

Ford attended camp with the New York Jets last summer, but was cut in August and failed to catch on with another team during the season. The 28-year-old is doing what he can to embrace his latest opportunity, despite the amount of competition he's facing.

“Being out last year, I definitely have a chip on my shoulder, regardless of who came in after me,’’ Ford said, via the team's official website. “I am just thankful to have another opportunity in the NFL, just to get back out there. I am going to do everything I can to not let this opportunity slip past me and try and go out there and help this team the best I can.”

What Ford brings to the Titans is blazing speed. The former fourth-round pick of the Raiders returned three kicks for touchdowns as a rookie and said he ran a 4.3 in the 40 when he worked out for Tennessee in January. Whether that's enough to help him standout from the rest of the team's receivers remains to be seen.

“It is definitely one of the most talented groups I have been around,’’ Ford said. “We have a lot of veterans and a lot of guys who have great talent, and to come in here and be a part of this group is a blessing. We all work hard, and it is a friendly competition here.”

Ford will spend camp training to impress coaches both as a receiver and core special teams player. After sitting out a year, he's glad to get another shot.

“I’m just going to keep working hard and try and be consistent,’’ Ford said. “I’m going to give it everything I’ve got.
