Jaguars ready to face Hasselbeck, Colts again
The Jacksonville Jaguars are preparing for their second game of the season against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday and once again, it appears 40-year-old quarterback Matt Hasselbeck will lead the Indianapolis offense.
The 17-year veteran started the Oct. 4 meeting between the two teams, leading the Colts to a 16-13 overtime win at Lucas Oil Stadium. Hasselbeck is 4-1 starting in place of the injured Andrew Luck, who is expected to be out once again as he recovers from a lacerated kidney.
Hasselbeck's lone loss this season came in last week's 45-10 blowout against the Pittsburgh Steelers, with the quarterback forced from the game in the fourth quarter with neck and rib injuries.
Despite the injuries, Hasselbeck is expected to play Sunday, with the Jaguars well aware of what the veteran brings to the Indianapolis offense.
"He’s been around the game forever,” Jacksonville cornerback Davon House said, per the team's official website. “There isn’t too much stuff that you can do that he hasn’t seen before. That’s the tough thing with quarterbacks like that: they’ve seen Cover-2, Tampa-2, Dom Capers’ fire-zone blitzing, Seahawks Cover-3 zone like we’re in … I don’t know what you can throw at him that he hasn’t seen. You can tell he’s a sharp guy. He came in when Andrew was hurt and has only lost one game.”
In five games this season, Hasselbeck has completed 64.2 percent of his passes and thrown eight touchdowns against four interceptions.
He completed 30 of 47 passes for 282 yards and a touchdown in the Colts' win over Jacksonville in October.
