Houston Texans: Tony Romo Instantly Makes Team Super Bowl Contenders

Tony Romo reportedly wants to play for the Houston Texans, bringing together a perfect combination for a Super Bowl run.

Longtime Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo isn’t ready to hang up the cleats, even though he is being forced out the door in Big D by rookie sensation Dak Prescott. Romo’s struggles with injuries haven’t stopped him from being one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL over the last decade and he can instantly benefit a team that wants to win now.

Romo is looking for a Super Bowl and so are the Houston Texans. The Texans are the best team in the NFL without a franchise quarterback, making them a perfect fit for Romo.

But nothing in the NFL is ever as easy as simply bringing together two pieces meant to be together. Romo is still under contract with the Cowboys, making a potential deal difficult to consider until he is either put on the trade block or released.

The Texans got good news this week, though. Per a report ESPN’s Ed Werder, Romo is expecting to be released by the Cowboys, freeing him up to sign with any other NFL team. Houston Chronicle columnist Jerome Solomon followed up Werder’s report by stating that the team Romo is fixated on is the Texans.

This development frees the Texans and Romo to make the improbable perfect match that can propel both of them forward.

With the Super Bowl window only open so long, the Texans desperately need a quarterback like Romo who can best utilize offensive weapons like DeAndre Hopkins and Lamar Miller and enable the team to not squander one of the best defenses in the NFL. The Texans are, quite literally, just a quarterback away.

For Romo, winning a championship would be the perfect way to cement his legacy. Often overlooked in favor of passers like Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, and Tom Brady, Romo has quietly put together a Hall of Fame-level resume that simply needs a Super Bowl as a crowning achievement. After squandering much of 2010-15, the Cowboys are now ready to make a Super Bowl run, but, in an ironic twist, it is with a different quarterback at the helm.

The news that a Tony Romo-Houston Texans marriage may be possible is the kind of uplifting news the Houston faithful needs. This isn’t just some pie in the sky dream anymore, the Texans could actually have a real, successful quarterback under center for 2017. All they need to do now is work out everything else so they can close the deal.
