Houston Texans: Brandon Dunn, Devon Still highlight roster moves

The Houston Texans made some roster moves on Wednesday with the biggest name being Devon Still who was placed on the injured reserve

After spending all of 2015 out of football, defensive end Devon Still looked like he was going to re-start his NFL career in Houston. Unfortunately the former second-round pick out of Penn State will have to wait at least another year before making any real impact.

On Sunday he recorded three tackles, the only of the season for him, and on Wednesday it was announced a lisfranc injury ended his season. The Texans placed Still on IR, a move head coach Bill O’Brien called tough.

“It’s tough,” O’Brien said via Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. “As soon as they diagnosed it, they went ahead and operated on him. I think that’s a tough thing. Obviously, Devon being a Penn State guy and what he’s gone through the past couple of years with his daughter, Leah. We feel for the guy, but he did a good job for us while he was here and I’m sure he’ll come back and play more football in this league.”

Still played three seasons for the Cincinnati Bengals but was never able to start a game for the team that selected 53rd overall in 2012. He became popular for standing by his daughter’s side as she bravely fought cancer.

In September of 2015 he was waived by the Bengals and never was signed by any other team. With the departure of Jared Crick in the offseason and the injury to J.J. Watt a couple of weeks ago, Still finally looked ready to be a solid contributor until the injury.

To replace him on the roster the Texans brought Brandon Dunn up from the practice squad. Dunn, 24-years old, was an undrafted free agent for the Chicago Bears in 2014. Last season he spent time with Chicago and Houston before being relegated to the Texans practice squad this year.

The 6-foot-2, 300-pound defensive lineman has ten tackles in 15 career games. Defensive end Dan Pettinato was signed to the practice squad to replace Dunn.
