Bill O'Brien likens new Texan B.J. Daniels to Julian Edelman

The addition of B.J. Daniels to Houston Texans roster gives head coach Bill O'Brien a multitude of options.

Daniels, who was signed off the Seattle Seahawks' practice squad on Monday, played quarterback in college at South Florida. But the third-year pro has also played wide receiver and can contribute on special teams as well.

“There’s some similarities there,” O’Brien said. “When Julian came into New England, that was an unbelievable story. I remember Bill (Belichick) throwing the tape on my desk like, ‘Okay, watch this tape on this kid’ and telling me ‘Look, this guy’s not a quarterback, so don’t tell me what he is as a quarterback.’ Tell me what else he can do.”

If there were a second paragraph, it would go here.

It's that kind of versatility that prompted O'Brien to compare Daniels with another former college quarterback, New England Patriots receiver Julian Edelman. O'Brien worked with Edelman during his time as a New England assistant.

With the Texans thin at quarterback after losing T.J. Yates to a season-ending knee injury, O'Brien said the Texans plans to use Daniels primarily at quarterback for now, but added he will see work at receiver as well.

In six games for the Seahawks this season, Daniels caught two passes for 18 yards and returned one punt for six yards.
