Packers rookie DB Damarious Randall off to perfect start in 2015

The Green Bay Packers picked cornerback Damarious Randall in the first round of this year's draft (30th overall) and his impact has been immediate.

Randall has played 75 defensive snaps so far and has been targeted six times by opposing quarterbacks, according to Tom Silverstein of the Journal Sentinel. The rookie has broken up three of those pass attempts, and the other three have fallen incomplete.

"He started off as good as I would hope," cornerbacks coach Joe Whitt said, per the Journal Sentinel. "We'll see how it continues. It's still early on, (but) when the ball has been thrown his way he's made sure they haven't caught it. That's always a plus."

Randall is a bit surprised he hasn't been targeted more often when he's in the game, but his coverage has simply been air tight.

"Honestly, I thought I would get tested a little bit more being a rookie out here, but from just looking up at film I see the quarterbacks kind of peeking over there but most of the time they just kind of see the guy covered and they go elsewhere," Randall said, via the Journal Sentinel.

With Morgan Burnett out for the Kansas City Chiefs game on Monday night, the Packers may have to move Micah Hyde to safety and allow Randall to fill in at slot cornerback, just as they did against the Chicago Bears in Week 1.

The increased playing time could yield those targets Randall was originally expecting.
