Aaron Rodgers hints he should get a new contract if Mike Glennon cashes in

Rumors have been swirling that free-agent quarterback Mike Glennon will get $14 million to $15 million per year when he signs this offseason. The Chicago Bears have been the likeliest landing spot for some time now with Jay Cutler likely to be released.

For a player who’s thrown 11 passes since the start of 2015, that seems like a hefty contract. It wouldn’t make him among the highest-paid, but it’s not even clear whether Glennon is capable of being a reliable starter in the NFL.

What does all of this mean for the top-tier quarterbacks? Perhaps they deserve more money.

Aaron Rodgers hinted at that idea Wednesday during his weekly radio spot with Jason Wilde of ESPN Wisconsin.

Rodgers has never really been one to voice his displeasure in Green Bay, often putting the team’s future before his. After the Packers lost to the Falcons in the NFC Championship game, he said the team has to be “all in every year to win,” perhaps suggesting general manager Ted Thompson should be more aggressive in free agency and in the draft.

Rodgers hasn’t received a new deal since 2013 despite consistently being one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL for the past four years. His play certainly warrants being the highest-paid player in the league, and he clearly believes he’s deserving of a new deal.

Will Glennon’s upcoming pay day make that happen? Well, that remains to be seen.
