Giants plan to move TE Larry Donnell around in 2015

In 2014, New York Giants tight end Larry Donnell served at times as the team's "move" tight, but for the most part, he was an in-line tight end. The Giants were heavy users of the 11 personnel formation that featured only one tight end, and in this formation, the tight end is often kept in-line.

As the Giants' offense continues to evolve under second year offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo, a whole new wrinkle could be added to Donnell's role within the offense.

Giants beat writer Pat Traina pointed out that before missing the final few spring practices with an injury, McAdoo was using Donnell all over the formation in new ways. According to Pat, Donnell moved around and motioned into the slot and even into the backfield on several plays. This was something that Donnell didn't do much of during spring practices in year one of McAdoo's scheme.

"Last year was just a whole, complete new offense," Donnell told Traina, per Inside Football. "So, we can add those tweaks and those things to it (now).

"It’s cool moving around to slot and to the outside."

Before we get a chance to see what McAdoo and the Giants offense has in store for Donnell in 2015, he will have to find his way back on to the field. Donnell sat out the majority of spring practices with Achilles tendinitis. Donnell told Traina that he is not considering surgery, but he stopped short of guaranteeing that he would be ready to go when training camp begins.
