Eric Berry receives ovation in first home game since beating cancer
Less than a year after being diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma, Chiefs safety Eric Berry was back at Arrowhead Stadium for Kansas City’s first home game of the 2015 season.
The Chiefs fans showered him in cheers.
Berry finished treatment in July, just in time for the former No. 5 overall pick to participate in training camp. He played in his first live game since beating cancer this preseason.
After going on the road in Week 1, Berry and the Chiefs returned to Kansas City for the home opener Thursday night against the Denver Broncos.
He had a special moment before entering Arrowhead Stadium, too.
Before the game, Berry’s nurses surprised him at the team hotel. They brought a poster, brandished with the words “Berry Brave,” which was signed by the staff that treated him at Emory University.
Tough to beat Eric Berry’s Thursday.
