Eric Berry doesn’t sound too confident about getting a long-term deal
It’s sounding more and more likely that Eric Berry will have to wait until next offseason for that elusive long-term deal.
The Kansas City Chiefs star safety who played under the franchise tag in 2016 didn’t make it seem like anything was going to change in 2017.
“I’m just being patient because you never know…I’m not getting my hopes up,” Berry said, via ESPN.
Berry, who was named to his fifth Pro Bowl in 2016, and the Chiefs have until Wednesday’s deadline to get a long-term deal hammered out. If Kansas City decides to tag Berry for the second consecutive season, it will cost the team around $13 million in 2017.
But Berry reiterated that he wouldn’t play with the Chiefs for a second consecutive season on the franchise tag.
“I still stand by that,” Berry said.
