Detroit Lions re-sign running back Rasheed Williams

Published Jun. 3, 2015 2:27 p.m. ET

The Detroit Lions have re-signed running back Rasheed Williams, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. This, after Williams was signed as an undrafted free agent and then cut after rookie minicamp last month.

Apparently, that was the plan all along, as Birkett reports that Williams never even cleaned out his locker. Due to NFL rules, Birkett was not eligible to practice until he had taken finals at Alfred State.

In the meantime, the Lions chose to sign another running back rather than go short-handed at the position, the Detroit Free Press explains. Joique Bell is still recovering from offseason surgeries, and 2015 second-round selection Ameer Abdullah missed OTA workouts while attending the NFLPA Rookie Premier in Los Angeles.

Detroit has cut ties with wide receiver Erik Lora to make room for Williams on the roster, Kyle Meinke of MLive.com reports.
