Darryl Tapp praises Stafford's toughness, says Lions QB is 'granite'

Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford has weathered some heavy blows so far this season, but he keeps coming back for more. Stafford injured his elbow against the San Diego Chargers in Week 1; he had X-rays on his chest after the Minnesota Vikings game last Sunday.

Lions defensive end Darryl Tapp praised Stafford's toughness, as the battered quarterback prepares to play against the Denver Broncos this week.

"He’s granite? Is granite right? He’s a granite diamond, hashtag. I couldn’t say enough about that guy," Tapp said, per Paula Pasche of The Oakland Press. "I know every day we strap up for a practice or a game he’s going to be there unless something just tremendously is wrong, I know he’s going to be there. We’re going to do everything we can to have his back on defense and I know the offense is going to keep him upright. So we’ll go to battle."

Tapp's "granite diamond" hashtag may not go viral as a descriptor for Stafford, but the veteran defender gets his point across. The Lions, currently 0-2, are counting on Stafford to stay strong and help turn the team around.
