The Cowboys win on national television and all of a sudden the exaggeration is in full force.

Rivalry Rants

IT'S ON!

Who will win this week's game between the Ravens and Bengals? Adam Schein and Peter Schrager take sides. Rivalry Rants

How many times have you heard this over the past few days?

The Cowboys are back! Tony Romo is a legend! This is the start of something big in big D!

Slow down on the hyperbole, folks. Slow down. That game was awful. Dallas wasn’t very good. And the Cowboys aren’t an elite team.

When the Lions and Cowboys meet in Dallas on FOX on Sunday afternoon, the Cowboys will clearly be the inferior team. And it is not even close.

Pick a match-up, any match-up. I like the 3-0 Lions to roll.

Matthew Stafford is playing at an elite level. He will be the better quarterback on the field. Stafford led the Lions to an epic comeback last week in Minnesota, coming back from a 20 point deficit. Stafford is third in the conference with 977 yards and tops in touchdown passes with 9. Last week, Stafford accumulated a quarterback rating of 108.8. He's 4-0 when Stafford chalks up a rating over 100. Make it 5-0 after Sunday. How can Dallas' defense match-up with the great and freakish Calvin Johnson, wingman Nate Burleson, and Brandon Pettigrew coming off of an 11 catch, 112 yard game last week? The answer is, simply put, they can't. I truly respect Rob Ryan. The new Dallas defensive coordinator is excellent and he has this team flying around. I truly respect Sean Lee, a budding playmaking star linebacker. But Lions passing attack puts too much pressure on a team.

Stafford is going to be super-motivated for this one, growing up in the Dallas area, starring at Highland Park High School.

And did you catch how rightly angry Tony Romo was at his team on Monday night? Phil Costa can't snap. Doug Free can't block. Kevin Ogletree doesn't seem to know what he's doing. Riddle me this Peter Schrager; how is the Dallas Cowboys offensive line going to have any chance stopping the unstoppable Ndamukong Suh? Suh is the best tackle in the NFC and will destroy the Dallas line. Then you factor in Kyle Vanden Bosch, the energizer bunny who has recorded a sack in every game this year.

Jason Garrett has potential to be a good head coach. Jim Schwartz is just that. Schwartz has proven he can win. He's changed the culture in downtrodden Detroit. He challenged his team to win three out of four down the stretch last year, as if they needed that to make the playoffs. They won all four. Schwartz's Lions are perfect in 2011. I'm not surprised. They are a good team. They are much better than the Dallas Cowboys.

Perhaps you are waiting for the Lions to fail based upon history. I guess you get street credibility by beating “America’s Team” with FOX’s “A team” doing the broadcast. Keep waiting, America. The Lions are here to stay.
