Ameer Abdullah has team-first mentality, won't reject RB committee

Most NFL running backs just want their touches -- as many as they can get, however they can get them. There's a natural aversion to a running-back-by-committee approach, as there's limited space for one player to take over as the team's featured back.

Lions rookie running back Ameer Abdullah is open to the idea of a committee, though. His unselfish attitude should blend in well with Joique Bell and Theo Riddick in Detroit's offensive backfield.

"It's not really about me," Abdullah said, per Carlos Monarrez of the Detroit Free Press. "I always hear a lot of questions like, 'How do you get used to it? How do you? How does Ameer adjust to things?' But at the end of the day, you've got to realize it's not about you.

"We have a lot of team-oriented goals for this team in the future. We want to be a playoff team. We want to go far into the playoffs. Taking that into account, there's certain things necessary to get that team there, and if that's to be a running back team by committee, I'm going to be that guy. And when I'm in, I'm going to make sure I make an impact."

Abdullah has been electric this summer, but Bell (knee/Achilles) is still slated to be the Lions' starter when he's healthy enough to return from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. Riddick is most valuable as a pass-catcher, so the majority of his snaps are likely to come on third down this season.
