Denver Broncos: Paxton Lynch starting Sunday vs. Jaguars

The Denver Broncos will start quarterback Paxton Lynch on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars after Trevor Siemian hurt his foot against the Chiefs…

In the middle of a heated playoff race, the Denver Broncos are being forced to turn to rookie first round pick Paxton Lynch for their game Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars, reports indicate…

This is the least surprising news of the week, but it’s all but official now as starter Trevor Siemian was not at practice on Friday. Gary Kubiak will likely make an official announcement after the Broncos conclude practice.

Siemian was in a walking boot all week, and was unable to move around and get himself a day of practice before the Broncos travel to Jacksonville. This will be the second start he’s missed due to injury this season (shoulder injury earlier in the year) and Lynch will thus make his second career start.

The backup for Sunday’s game will be Austin Davis, who was signed at the start of the season when the Broncos decided to bring forth the youth movement at the quarterback position.

Today, fans are upset for Siemian, who is coming off of arguably his best performance as a pro. He’s been injured a couple times this season, and certainly had given the Broncos and their fans some confidence after his three touchdown game against Kansas City.

Putting the Broncos ahead by eight in the fourth and three in overtime wasn’t enough for Siemian to help the Broncos win the game, and now he’s not going to be able to build off of that performance.

This setback is discouraging, but it’s exciting to think about getting a chance to watch more of Paxton Lynch. Lynch was not good in his first start against Atlanta, but was excellent in relief of Siemian when the Broncos won in Tampa Bay.

They are hoping for similar success on the road in this game from Lynch, who has taken the majority of reps this week at practices and said he’s ready for another opportunity to start.
