Demaryius Thomas wants to break NFL receiving yards record in 2015

With a shiny new deal freshly signed, receiver Demaryius Thomas has his sights set on another lofty goal.

Speaking at his press conference on Friday, the Denver Broncos star dished on a couple of interesting topics.

It’s easy to see why A.J. Green would call to say “thank you” after Thomas inked a five-year deal worth $70 million. Green is playing out the final year of his rookie deal and is set to rake in millions next year—whether it’s with the Cincinnati Bengals or another team.

On to the second point, which is really interesting.

Thomas certainly has the talent to rack up yards to rival the best in the business. However, Calvin Johnson’s record of 1,964 yards in a single season is a record that will be difficult to break.

Thomas racked up 1,619 yards last season, which was his best total to date.

With an aging Peyton Manning at the helm, who has legitimate arm-strength issues these days, it’s hard to imagine Thomas will hit Johnson’s mark. It will take a lot of after-the-catch work by Thomas to come close.

To have such a goal is a good thing, though. Thomas is clearly not going to rest on his laurels, which means the Broncos should get their money’s worth from the receiver in the years to come.
