Report: Broncos don't expect to re-sign Thomases before season ends

Published Oct. 23, 2014 9:02 a.m. ET

The Denver Broncos do not expect to re-sign wide receiver Demaryius Thomas and tight end Julius Thomas during the season, ESPN reported Thursday.

The two offensive stars will become free agents if they don't come to terms with the team before the season ends. The Broncos, who have one franchise tag to use between the two players, have had talks with both players but those negotiations haven't progressed enough, prompting Denver to table them to after the season, according to the report.

Demaryius Thomas has 47 catches for 767 yards and six touchdowns this season while Julius Thomas has 30 catches for 327 yards and nine touchdowns.

Demaryius Thomas had eight catches for 105 yards Thursday night in the Broncos' 35-21 victory over the San Diego Chargers. However, with the Chargers' banged-up secondary double-teaming Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders caught TDs of 2, 31 and 3 yards in a 120-yard night.

''Every week we don't know where the ball is going to go,'' Sanders said. ''The defense really dictates that and what Peyton is seeing. And tonight was just my night.''

Rookie running back Juwan Thompson added two TD runs as the Broncos (6-1) tightened their grip on the AFC West over the Chargers (5-3), who lost their second straight game.

Manning finished 25 of 35 for 286 yards and Ronnie Hillman added 109 yards on 20 carries.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
